The Art of the Breath

The breath is the first teacher

Postures prepare the body, but the tradition Arjuna carries lives in the breath. Pranayama is the one bridge between body and mind you can actually take hold of — and it is taught here in full, from your first conscious breath to the eleventh classical practice.

Why breath first

Calm the breath, and the mind follows on its own

In the Himalayan lineage Arjuna trained in, pranayama is not a warm-up — it is the practice. Learn to lengthen, balance and quieten the breath, and meditation stops being a struggle and starts being a homecoming.

Every session is taught step by step, in plain language, for every level — in person in Kathmandu or online, wherever you are in the world.

“Prana is life moving. Pranayama is learning to move with it, instead of against it.”

The Breathwork

Eleven breaths you will learn by heart

नाडी शोधन

Nadi Shodhana

Alternate-nostril breathing

The great balancer. Slow, alternating breath that settles the nervous system and clears the subtle channels — Arjuna begins every practice, and recommends every student begin every day, here.

कपालभाति

Kapalabhati

Skull-shining breath

A cleansing, energising kriya of sharp exhalations. Builds heat, clarity and abdominal strength; traditionally practised at dawn before the mind fills with the day.

भ्रामरी

Bhramari

Humming-bee breath

A soft hum on the exhale that turns the attention inward almost immediately. The gentlest doorway into meditation — and Arjuna's first prescription for anxious minds.

उज्जायी

Ujjayi

Victorious breath

The oceanic breath that accompanies asana practice. Long, audible, steady — it turns movement into meditation and keeps the mind tethered to the present.

भस्त्रिका

Bhastrika

Bellows breath

Powerful, rhythmic breathing that stokes the inner fire. Builds vitality, warmth and lung capacity — the practice for cold mountain mornings and dull minds.

चन्द्र भेदन

Chandra Bhedana

Moon-piercing breath

Inhaling through the left nostril to awaken the cooling, calming lunar channel. Taught for restlessness, heat and sleepless nights.

सूर्य भेदन

Surya Bhedana

Sun-piercing breath

Inhaling through the right nostril to kindle the warming solar channel. Energising and clarifying — used when the body is sluggish and the mind is dim.

शीतली

Sheetali

Cooling breath

Drawing the breath over a rolled tongue like water over stone. Cools the body, softens anger and settles the appetite — the classic summer pranayama.

शीत्कारी

Sheetkari

Hissing cooling breath

A sister practice to Sheetali, sipping the breath through gently closed teeth. The same cooling, calming current for those who cannot roll the tongue.

मूर्च्छा

Moorchha

Swooning breath

An advanced retention practice that draws the mind toward complete stillness. Taught only in person, step by careful step, under Arjuna's direct guidance.

केवली

Kevali

Spontaneous retention

The crown of pranayama: the breath pausing by itself, without effort, in deep absorption. Not a technique you perform but a state the other ten prepare you for.
